Serigrafi, tarihçesi çok eskiye dayanan bir baskı tekniğidir. 900 lü yıllarda Çin’de kullanılmaya başlanan bu teknik, emülsiyonun (ışığa duyarlı bir kimyasal karışım) keşfedilmesiyle birlikte seri üretimde kullanılmaya başlandı. Emülsiyonun keşfiyle, basılacak desenlerin kısıtlı olduğu dönem sona erdi, artık serigrafi tekniği ile daha detaylı baskılar yapılabiliyordu. Boyanın içeriği değişmek kaydıyla, serigrafi baskı tekniği kağıt, karton, plastik, cam, metal ve kumaş gibi birçok ham maddeye uygulanabilir.
